Privacy Policy

What we collect

Vibrato is a read-only music theory publication. There are no accounts, no comment threads and no upload forms, so we never receive your name, your notation files or your recordings. When you read a lesson, our server keeps an ordinary access log: IP address, user agent, requested URL and timestamp. We use it to diagnose faults and to count visits.

If you email us — to report a notational error, for example — we keep that message and whatever you chose to write in it, and we use it only to answer the question.

Cookies and local storage

Vibrato itself sets no tracking cookies. The language switch on every page changes the URL prefix you request (plain paths for English, /zh/ for Chinese); it does not rely on a cookie.

Advertising scripts may set cookies once ads are enabled. That is covered in the next section.

Third-party advertising (Google AdSense)

When advertising is enabled we use Google AdSense to serve ads on this site. Google and its partners may place cookies when you visit Vibrato or other sites in order to show advertising based on your prior visits.

Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie to serve ads on third-party sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), or opt out of some third-party vendors at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.com.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, personalised advertising cookies load only after you consent; the Privacy & Messaging panel linked from the footer lets you change that choice at any time.

Traffic measurement

We count page views, referrers, browser languages and countries from server access logs. These figures are used in aggregate, are not used to build individual profiles, and are not joined to advertising data.

Links to other sites

Lessons occasionally link to sheet-music publishers, instrument makers or other teaching resources. Those sites have their own privacy policies; we do not control their content or their handling of your data, so please read their terms before using them.

Your rights (GDPR and CCPA)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of processing of any personal data we hold about you, and you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident, you may request disclosure of the categories of information we collect and the purposes for which it is used, and you may request deletion. We do not sell personal information.

Children

This site is written for general music learners and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

When our advertising partners or our measurement methods change, we update this page and move the "Last updated" date at the top. Substantial changes are flagged on the home page for one month.
